Abstract:

Bio-decontamination by three types of DC electrical discharges in atmospheric air with one electrode in water (streamer corona, transient spark and glow discharge) were tested on bacteria in water solution both in a static and a flowing regime. The bacteria were killed most
efficiently in the transient spark with ultra short high pulses. The emission spectroscopic analyses indicate a major role of radicals and active species among other bio-decontamination mechanisms.
