Abstrakt:

The effect of water conductivity on electro-spraying of water was studied in combination with DC corona discharge generated in air. We used a point-to-plane geometry of electrodes with a hollow syringe needle anode opposite to the metal mesh cathode. For this investigation we used current measurements in combination with high speed camera for fast imaging. This method is useful for a time-resolved visualization of fast phenomena. We visualized the formation of jet or water filaments for different conductivities. Also discharge behavior was observed for different conductivities. Depending on the conductivity, various jet shapes were observed. For lower conductivity, more prolonged water filaments were present. Additionally, with increasing the conductivity, the corona-to-spark breakdown voltage was decreasing.
