Abstract: Chemical effects in aqueous solutions induced by DC transient spark discharge generated in atmospheric pressure air were investigated. Changes of pH, conductivity and formation of reactive oxygen (ROS) and nitrogen (RNS) species were observed in water or PB solutions after treatment by water electro-spray system or water electrode system. The concentrations of hydrogen peroxide, nitrites and nitrates were measured. By addition of the enzyme catalase we showed that hydrogen peroxide does not have any influence on the Griess reagent colorimetric method for nitrites detection. We found out that the indigo blue method for measuring ozone in water is not selective in plasma treated solutions. It seems that hydroxyl radical is responsible for the false positive reaction of the indigo method.
