Optimum experimental design for reconstruction of flame front propagation in a long pipeHajossy R., Morva I. |
Abstrakt: By smoothing spline polynomials, the propagation of a flame front and its velocity along the whole piping (diameter D=110 mm; length 20 m; stoichiometric mixture hydrogene/air) has been reconstructed from incomplete and only relative data of optical sensors . The optimum nodal points of the splines (15D, 85D, 101D) divide the piping into 4 physically different parts. A stationary detonation velocity 2058 m/s at position 101D and a maximum velocity 2588 m/s at 85D has been determined. Neglecting the predetonation increase of velocity, only a mean detonation velocity 2140 m/s from 67D could have been found. Using the theory of optimum experimental design, the minimum number of monitoring sensors 11 and the optimal position of these sensors within the characteristic regions of piping has been calculated. With respect to the complexity of combustion process, also the optimum distribution of 16 sensors has been discussed.
