Effect of cathode surface properties on glow-to-arc transition in a short positive corona gap in ambient airCernak M., van Velthuizen E.M., Morva I., Rutgers W.R. |

Abstract: Measuremets were made of curret growth waveforms correspodig to the glow-to-arc trasitio i a 1-cm positive poit-plae gap i coditios similar to those i pulsed coroa devices used for flue gas cleaig. The glow-to-arc trasitio was sigificatly accelerated usig freshly polished ucoditioed cathode surface. The duratio of glow-to-arc trasitio as short as 25 s was observed usig graphite-coated cathode. A possible explaatio i terms of the cathode sheath breakups is preseted.
