Bc. study 2014 - 2015
Supervisor: Zdenko Machala Consultant: -- Title: Development of portable plasma needle for surface disinfection and wound healing Abstract: The objective of this work was to find optimal parameters for a home-built plasma source (corona pen), using normal air as a working gas that will be used for local disinfection of surfaces and wound healing. Our plasma source generates non-equilibrium (cold) plasma of a positive corona discharge with bio-decontaminating effects. We have measured decontaminated areas in Petri dishes on bacteriological agars with E. coli bacteria for various distances between electrodes, various treatment periods and positions of plastic cover of the needle. For respective combinations of geometrical and electrical parameters of the corona pen we have compared the decontaminated areas and we have chosen the most ideal conditions for which the largest area is decontaminated. We have also confirmed the effect of the position of the needle cover (plastic cover from the pen) on the decontaminated area at certain distance between electrodes.
