Supervisor: Zdenko Machala Consultant: -- Title: Testing of portable plasma pen for surface disinfection Abstract: The main objective of this work was testing of disinfection effects of a mobile plasma
source generating non-thermal plasma by corona discharge (so called plasma pen), using
normal air in atmospheric pressure as a working gas. The effect of disinfection has been
tested on surfaces of bacteriological agars in Petri dishes which were contaminated by grampositive
bacteria Staphylococcus aureus or gramnegative bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa
or Escherichia coli. We compared disinfection effects on particular bacteria and the time of
plasma aplication. We also compared disinfection effects of plasma with chemical biocides
Persteril and Chirosan plus which are commonly used in medicine. These tests were performed
on contaminated surgical scaplels. Non-thermal plasma of the mobile plasma source is an interesting alternative for local disinfection of object surfaces and it can be applied on heat non-resistant objects.
