PLANTED is ENLIGHT Thematic Networks (ETN) project. ENLIGHT stands for European university Network to promote equitable quality of Life, sustaInability and Global engagement through Higher education Transformation. ENLIGHT is a European University alliance of ten comprehensive, research-intensive universities from ten European countries.

PLANTED Objectives

The project has two primary objectives:
1. Provide opportunities for the knowledge exchange and training for experts in the related fields of plasma science, analytical chemistry, wastewater treatment, as well as for university students and the wider public.
2. Establish an efficient collaboration in science and education between the partnering research groups with the aim of applying for additional funding from Horizon Europe, Interreg water- related or circular economy projects.

How to achieve objectives

These objectives are achieved by following sub-tasks:
i) Update existing bachelor, master and PhD courses in each university, e.g. Master programs “Environmental Governance” of UT, “Environmental physics and renewable energy sources” at CUB and “Plasma Technology” course in UGent.
ii) Inviting speakers from collaborating universities to bring additional expertise to the educational activities.
iii) Training schools (1 week) with a particular focus will be organized by each university during each year of the project: 1st year CUB “Reactive species, Plasma-liquid systems, Plasma diagnostic”; 2nd year UGent “Plasma applications and wastewater treatment”; 3rd year UT “Analytical chemistry, Pharma-treatment, Bio-step”.
iv) Short-term scientific missions for PhD students, young researchers and members of the partnering research groups are aimed in conducting exploratory experiments aimed for future project proposal and potential joint publications.
v) Creating open access resources for the relevant students and for the wider public, e.g. presentations in local language on the topics of waste-water treatment.
vi) Dissemination of project activities and information about wastewater treatment for wider public.
